NOTES ON WEATHER/ENVIRONMENT:
Yes, being on the lush and jungle-y East side of the island means it DOES rain, but don't be too scared off by weather forecasts that always make it seem like it is ALWAYS rainy. Most of the time rain is confined to evening/overnight/early morning showers and we experience lovely weather the rest of the day. But there are times where it will rain most/all of the day, sometimes for several days in a row (and some months are historically wetter/dryer than others, so we recommend doing your research on climate before traveling here!). If it IS rainy here on the East side, chances are it is dry and sunny on the West 'Kona' side of the island and you can always cruise over there to explore and spend the day.
Temps at our elevation will generally be in the 70s during the daytime (occasionally reaching into the low 80s during the summer months), and in the 60s at night. Some nights, particularly in the winter months, temps can dip to the upper 50s, so it's always a good idea to bring some warmer clothes with you when visiting. Temperatures while exploring other parts of the island (down on the coast or over on the West side) will generally be notably warmer (or potentially freezing if you go to higher elevations).
Much of East Hawai’i is inhabited by geckos, lizards, Coqui frogs, a variety of birds and insects, and wild chickens/pigs/goats - and our property is no exception! You will be serenaded by the tiny-but-mighty Coqui frogs every evening, and we would highly recommend finding a recording showcasing their singing if you are unfamiliar with them to see if it agrees with you. Our property is in the middle of farmland, so many of our neighbors have chickens/dogs/sheep/cows/geese that will also be making their own noises. You may occasionally find a gecko climbing the walls inside of the bungalow, but they are polite and adorable little house guests that keep to themselves.
